Hi there!
We're Bea James and Jess Theopold — sisters, native Ithacans, and the proud new stewards of one of Brooktondale's most beloved gathering places.
We grew up on a small farm in Ellis Hollow, where we developed a deep appreciation for community, hard work, and the beauty of the Finger Lakes. Our paths eventually took us far from home— to Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and Europe— for college, graduate school, and career opportunities. Yet no matter where life led us, we always found ourselves dreaming about coming home and one day building something meaningful together.
This year, in honor of our mother and the values she instilled in us, we decided to make that dream a reality by taking the reins of Brookton's Market.
For nearly 200 years, this special corner along Six Mile Creek has been woven into the fabric of Brooktondale. Long before it became Brookton's Market in 2007, the site served as a tin shop, post office, plaster mill, and general store—always evolving to meet the needs of the community. Today, Brookton's continues that tradition as a place where neighbors gather over coffee, enjoy made-to-order sandwiches, discover local wines and craft beer, and spend evenings listening to live music.
Some of our favorite memories are rooted right here in the Finger Lakes: summer afternoons swimming at the Old Mill, brilliant autumns surrounded by the beauty of Cornell, and snowy winters that always called for a cup of hot cocoa. Those experiences inspire everything we're creating at Brookton's.
Our goal is simple: preserve the character and hospitality that have made Brookton's a community favorite while thoughtfully introducing fresh ideas and new experiences. You'll continue to find the welcoming atmosphere you've always loved, alongside expanded offerings of locally made goods, fresh prepared foods, specialty groceries, craft beverages, and products that celebrate the incredible people and makers of the Finger Lakes.
More than anything, we hope Brookton's remains a place where friends catch up over coffee, families stop in for lunch, travelers discover the charm of our region, and everyone feels at home the moment they walk through the door.
We're honored to continue Brookton's story, and we're so glad you're part of it. We hope to see you soon! ❤️
